Welcome to USBMemoryStick.org
Hello and welcome to my website, USBMemoryStick.org! My name is Ian and I like developing websites in my spare time. I developed this website to discuss one of my favorite topics: USB memory sticks. In addition to the general information on this page, I present a variety of helpful articles on this site about USB memory including: USB pens, USB keys, USB flash, USB storage, memory cards, USB disk drives, custom USB memory sticks, and memory card readers. You can access these articles from the left side navigation on this page. Thanks so much for visiting my site and please don't hesitate to contact me with questions and comments!
What is USB Memory?
USB memory is simply a name. The connector is USB, the memory if you are speaking of a
thumb drive or USB memory stick is flash memory. We call it USB memory because of that handy and reliable
USB connector. To define a little better, USB means universal serial bus. This handy connection has
to a great degree replaced the older, bulkier, and sometimes fragile pin type connectors. The connections
in the USB device are wrapped and protected by the metal "tongue" casing, well protected from damage.
Although we do say "USB memory", the memory itself is flash memory. That means electrically erasable programmable read-only memory. The word "flash" comes from the early days of development, when the chip had to be erased all at once, reminding one of the developers of a camera flash. Now, of course, you write, save, overwrite, and anything you need to do, just as you do on the computer hard drive itself.
USB memory keys are now common
The first commercial flash memory drives were introduced in 2000. The IBM initial offering had a capacity of 8 MB, huge when compared to the floppy disks that we were using back then. Now, floppy drives are practically gone, and all you see are USB ports, and of course the USB memory keys get ever huger in capacity.
USB memory sticks of all shapes and sizes
USB memory comes in an amazing array of styles. Perhaps because of its usefulness, combined with its small size, it is one of the most modifiable and most modified of computer related products. You can get USB memory drives that look like a sushi roll, dim sum, a thumb (really), or a mini Barbie.
USB memory has even more uses than it has forms. Arcade players can use USB memory to record their high scores, music can be stored and carried wherever you go. Loads of computer tools and work programs can be stored on a USB flash memory drive, if you are into work instead of play. Actually, you can boot an entire operating system from a USB drive, in case you need to run Linux for diagnostic or repair purposes.
USB hard drives
All this is without even mentioning the larger USB drives and backup systems. They can hold whatever you have, and then some. While they will not fit in your pocket as the smaller drives do, they do fit on your desk in stylish packages, and can save the day if your main drive goes down.
The future of USB memory
The future of USB memory is likely to be smaller in size, larger in capacity, and ever more affordable. Actually, in reality it is already amazingly affordable, but expect to get more for less in the future. Useful and fun, we have loved USB memory ever since it came out around the turn of the millennium. Currently, there is no sign of any decrease in either usefulness or popularity.

Also, I'm super excited that I just launched a new online store for flash camcorders. It's really amazing how cheap technology can be these days. In my opinion, you can't afford not buying a flash camcorder. Please check out my new site, Flash Camcorder and start filming all those great memories in your life! Thanks so much for visiting my website.
